PROJECTS
EDUCATION
Peru’s education system still struggles, especially in rural areas were the geography and the distance are the main complications. In most of the rural schools’ students are bilingual (Quechua – Spanish), and because of the small number of students, the government decided to stablish a multiclass system, it means that they have two grades in each classroom.
Peru Study Abroad works with primary schools and private kinder gardens in Cusco and primary schools in rural areas in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our international interns assist local teachers and students, they help with teacher’s presentations, classroom managements and ludic activities.
MICRO - BUSINESS AND WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
The Peruvian economy is an emerging, social market economy, on the last then years the Peruvian economy became as one of the most solid in South America. From 2000 to 2019, the labor force participation rate of Peruvian women increased from 58 to 72 percent, a level higher than most Latin American countries. As poverty levels diminished, women increased their contribution to Peru’s production of goods and services, Cusco has experienced exceptional growth due the tourism activity, lots of woman entrepreneurial started their own business, many of them from rural areas. Jewelry, textiles, health food, ceramic and many other ancestral traditional activities are managed by woman. Here is always a demand for international interns, they responsibilities includes, digital marketing, public relations, client service and innovation support.
MEDICAL
One of the biggest problems in Cusco is the healthcare system, with only two public hospitals, is impossible to have a good coverage in the region. Private hospitals and NGO´s are important to provide healthcare access in some areas. The influence of the Peruvian culture and traditions are also very interesting to analyze, indigenous people use to visit Shamans if they are sick.
